My passion has always been in science, beginning with my bachelors degree, so to be teaching science full-time has been a goal of mine for a long time and I am very happy to be at Crabapple Middle School. I have 6 years experience teaching 2nd, 3rd and 5th grade and five years teaching 6th grade Earth Science, including two years at Elkins Pointe Middle School. I have been tutoring for about 10 years covering a wide range of skills from reading comprehension, study skills and organization, writing, phonics and math for elementary, middle school and adult aged students. In addition to the science content, I will be teaching reading comprehension strategies and how to ask higher order questions. My teaching and tutoring experiences have really highlighted the need to have strong reading skills across all academic subjects and science really lends itself to learning different strategies great across all curriculum.
Prior to becoming a teacher, I was a medical practice manager in Washington, D.C. for surgeons and an allergist. Teaching is in my blood though and I am a volunteer instructor for Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) for the Cobb County Emergency Management Agency, KSU and the Knights of Columbus.
I have lived in Cobb County and Georgia for the last 20 years. I am married with a 22 year old son, a 23 year old stepson that is in the Air Force working on jets, a Siberian Husky, countless fish, and a parrot. My son graduated from Pope High School in Cobb County and is a rising senior at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, OH. In addition to being a Business Marketing major, he will be playing Division III lacrosse for OWU.
I am very excited to be here and looking forward to having an awesome year!
